Joy McCreary graduated from UCLA in Spring 2018 with degrees in German, Political Science, and International Development Studies. After having taken four years of German in high school, she continued taking courses at UCLA to maintain her language ability. While she only intended on pursuing a minor, her love for her classes and professors in the German Department motivated her to take on her third major to be completed in four years. As her love for German grew even further, she spent a summer living in Berlin, where she interned for a German start-up in media and advertising and refined her language skills. Upon graduation, Joy joined Teach For America and is pursuing a master’s degree in Urban Education with a specialization in Policy and Administration from Loyola Marymount University. She hopes to integrate bilingual education into much of her curriculum, as she personally knows the benefits of learning another language. Joy believes that having a worldly perspective will be key to her being the best teacher she can, and she hopes to inspire her students to explore the world for themselves.
